Shoot # 37

TäppanFlower_PhShLove And Blue Sky – 2015

Lund, December 19, 2015

Hi friend

Welcome to shoot # 37
– a digital photo gift from Oberg Photographics – a moment of meditation with which I wish you a good weekend and “weekbegin”.
And this time a festive season for those of you who celebrate Christmas.

The photo above
“Love and Blue Skye” is a simple shot – well, actually not that simple. It’s a reminder of the summer that was. Isn’t that what we may all need in the dark time of the year and in troubled times: Beauty, simplicity and peace?

New editions
“Love And Blue Skye” is one of quite a few new 2015 editions that you may want to take a look at on my photo homepage – some are from my series “Pictures At An Exhibition”, some from Venice and others are abstract, experimental and even minimalist – and more to come.

Entrance – 2015

Close to southern Sweden? Come around
“Pictures At An Exhibition” is on show at my studio together with the “Rouen Cathedral Suite # 1-10” inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s 1969-series based on Claude Monet’s impressionist paintings is also on show. More on the idea and how it was executed on my art blog.
My studio is open always – just we need to make an appointment first (see below).

Arielle # 2 – Burundi 2010

Lund, December 12, 2015

Hi friend…

Welcome to shoot # 36
– a digital photo gift from Oberg Photographics – a moment of meditation with which I wish you a good weekend and “weekbegin.”

A humanitarian gift
I’ve worked as a peace researcher and educator in Burundi, on and off between 1999 and 2012. Healing after the genocide looked promising.

It’s the 2nd poorest on earth with 10 million strong, struggling people and a breathtakingly beautiful countryside. But sadly, today it is at the brink of civil war, perhaps another genocide. The world knows it and does nothing to prevent it.

During my many visits I took pictures of young women – the natural way they wanted to be photographed. Most had never been in front of a camera before. Arielle above later became Miss Burundi.

With each I have a contract promising them 50% of my sales price here in Sweden. With the annual per capita income being around US $ 200, this can mean a lot to them.

So if you buy one of the 55 images from the website you’ve supported a young person in a poor, violence-stricken land.

Fiona # 1 – Burundi 2010

I’ve also taken photos of former street boys in Burundi who benefit from my sales.

Browse the links. I urge you do a good deed today for someone who is in need and in danger now.

Why it’s different and cheaper-to-the-quality
My photographs are printed in limited editions, signed and numbered and come with an authenticity guarantee. Superb inkjet prints on fine art papers from Hahnemühle (since 1886) or Canson (since 1801) or on canvas.

I experiment with techniques and media to get a unique graphics-like appearance on matte papers. And I do the entire shoot-to-print process myself.
The works are sold by me only. That’s your guarantee of both quality and cheapest price (from US$ 100 and upwards).

Lifeline…
Be inspired at my online studio, visit it, write or call me. The last chance – lifeline – for your order to be processed before Xmas is December 16.

Try something new. For this Christmas and New Year, a quality art photograph could be your joyful and lasting alternative to the mass-produced thing in the gift shop.

Lots to see
“Pictures At An Exhibition” is on show at my studio. Together with one of my main works this year – the “Rouen Cathedral Suite # 1-10” inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s 1969-series based on Claude Monet’s impressionist paintings.

But do check out my online studio before you come because everything can’t be on the walls.

Welcome to Open studio on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 11-13 – from 14 to 17.

Welcome to shoot # 35

The beauty – and peace – in everyday things
To me the photo above is an example of that beauty. The shapes, the light, the moment. We can find it almost everywhere – if we are mindful and take the time.
Yes, I know that beauty is very subjective and – like peace – difficult to define. But we have enough of ugly stuff and violence around us, don’t we?
Here is curtain in an old house. I saw that window light and textile as a gift to me. And thus took it with in my iPhone.

The Venice Biennale
Last I told you about the Venice Biennale, perhaps the world’s most important art event. Here are now two blog posts with links and photos – one on my generalised impressions and one about Iran’s amazing, innovative pavilion. For those many of my readers who couldn’t go there themselves.

You can be an artistic gift-giver this year
Do something different and make someone happy by the lasting – and creative – gift that an art photo in a limited edition, signed and numbered is!
I do the entire shoot-to-print process myself and the works are only sold by me. That’s your guarantee of both quality and cheapest price. Be inspired at my homepage (also with new editions), write or call me and I shall be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Biennale 2015 # 2: Iran’s pavilion

Iran's pavillion at the red banners

Iran’s pavillion at the red banners

Year by year the “third” Venice Biennale venues outside Giardini and Arsenale – i.e. all over the rest of the city in apartments, palazzos and old factories – grow relatively more interesting and diverse.

It is fun to be forced to find one’s way to the most hidden places, through a little door in a wall, through a garden, or whatever. And those searching walks give you a break from looking at art all the time – something Giardini and Arsenale doesn’t permit you to do. And one never gets bored by exploring the millions of small alleys through Venice.

The Biennale is now so huge that you can anyhow only see a fraction – and so you have to choose. Together with quite a few other exhibitons in town, I chose Iran’s because of my interest in Iranian contemporary art and my peacebuilding-related work in Iran.
